The Hollywood studios’ technology joint venture MovieLabs is launching a leadership council for its recently-formed MovieLabs Industry Forum, with industry vet Leon Silverman as chair.
The council is made up by MovieLabs studio members, including Paramount Pictures, The Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal City Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment, joined by Adobe, Amazon Web Services, Dolby, Avid, DreamWorks Animation and Skywalker Sound.
Additionally, inaugural members of the Industry Forum include Final Draft, United Talent Agency, Evercast, LucidLink, Prime Focus Technologies, Sohonet and Sony Group, alongside other tech ventures.
The collective goal is to convene media and technology companies to support MovieLabs’ 2030 Vision, a published plan for the future of production, post and creative technologies aimed at enabling secure, interoperable workflows. It also strives to create a forum for how AI will be applied to these workflows and tools.
“It is essential for our industry to continue to embrace emerging technologies in ways that empower storytellers and the entire creative community,” MovieLabs CEO Richard Berger said in a statement. “While much work lies ahead, we are gathering the right companies and voices to realize the 2030 Vision.”
Silverman, who has been a MovieLabs advisor since 2020, has held senior roles at Walt Disney Studios, Netflix, LaserPacific and the Eastman Kodak Company. He was a founder of the Hollywood Professional Association and is active in committees of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Television Academy.
Of his appointment, Silverman said in a statement: “I’m encouraged by the enthusiasm of our leadership council and growing global community of Forum members who are committed to working together to realize our shared vision for our creative industry’s future.”
