Today With Jenna & Friends guest host and SNL cast member Bowen Yang was proud of his co-star Ego Nwodim for her recent slip-up that may have earned a fine for the iconic NBC series.

Jenna Bush Hager shared the “incredible moment” during Monday’s broadcast of Today in which she and Yang gushed over the hilarious moment. “She was doing this mock audition for the White House correspondents dinner and the audience gave her some participation I don’t know that she saw coming,” Bush Hager said as she queued up the clip.

“I don’t think she saw this coming,” Yang said in agreement.

The sketch in question saw Nwodim do a call-and-response with the live studio audience. At one point, she asks, “‘Cause these men ain’t what?” As Yang explained it, Nwodim was not expecting a response back from the audience, but viewers in the studio wasted no time at all before firing back, “Shit!”

“I think the way it was written was, it was supposed to play to silence, like the audience doesn’t know what her catch phrases are,” Yang explained on Today. “And I think this says something about the state of men in this current year of 2025 that everyone knew what to say at the same time.”

“They didn’t even say ‘Ain’t worth a damn,’ which I think we are allowed to say,” Bush Hager pointed out. “But they really went for it because we’re tired, man.”

this SNL Weekend Update bit did NOT go as planned lolEgo Nwodim: ‘Cause these men ain’t what???Audience: Shit!!![everyone on stage gasps]Ego: We’re gonna get fired for that! Lorne will be mad at y’all! pic.twitter.com/TnmZcwwCpu— Spencer Althouse (@SpencerAlthouse) April 6, 2025

Yang hailed the viral moment as “one of the all time greatest” from the show. “It was such a funny bit. Let me tell you, as a cast member, there is no better feeling than scoring on Weekend Update,” he said.

The comedian and actor added that he is also “tired of guys,” prompting Bush Hager to tell him, “You’re the only man — besides my husband — that I’m not tired of.”

But Yang reminded Bush Hager that she has a lineup of men joining her on the show this week. “… And John Legend, Jay Ellis, and Andrew Rannells,” he added, naming her lineup of guest hosts for the week.

Yang will return later this week to host Friday’s episode of Today With Jenna & Friends.

Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
