Mark Consuelos has an unfortunate habit of forgetting his character’s names.

At the start of this morning’s taping of Live with Kelly & Mark, co-host Kelly Ripa shared an interesting report about the productivity of a wandering train of thought.

“When your mind wanders, your brain is learning better than you think it is,” she shared. “It helps with learning and it boosts your ability to pick up on patterns in the world around you.”

For those of us that are easily distractible, this may come as good news. It certainly did for Consuelos, who shared a hilarious story about an awkward encounter he had with a reporter.

While on a press tour for his 2016 Fox show Pitch, Consuelos attended a breakfast with reporters where he was asked to answer some questions about the show at different tables.

“I was doing the same thing: my mind was wandering and I was thinking about something else,” Consuelos said. “And they asked me about my character and how they came up with the name.”

The only problem? He had completely forgotten his character’s name.

“Not the name,” Ripa laughed. “You always forget your character’s name! It’s a thing!”

Consuelos admitted, “In the moment, I truly forgot my character’s name.”

In his defense, he had only shot the pilot episode at the time, and had also been working on two other projects. So what did he say in response to the question?

“I looked the reporter right in the eyes, grabbed my phone and said, ‘It’s my wife, I’ll be right back!’” he recalled, as Ripa asked, “Why is it always the wife that gets thrown under the bus?” much to the amusement of the audience.

Consuelos then excused himself to the hallway to Google the name of his character, which turned out to be Oscar.

Ripa piped up, “You’re such a good actor, you faked that phone call!”

“I’m not sure they bought it,” Consuelos replied.

If he couldn’t even answer this first question, I wonder how the rest of the interview went!
