Jimmy Kimmel could not care less that President Donald Trump has an annual physical scheduled this Friday.
The late night host made it clear during Tuesday’s episode of Live when he shared a recent social media post from the president announcing he’s “never felt better” ahead of his physical examination, despite the current state of the economy.
No matter how Americans might feel today, Kimmel said, “The good news is the president wants us to know he’s doing just fine.”
“It’s funny because the rest of us have never felt worse,” he continued. “And by the way, why do we even need to know that? Like if my dad told me he was going into his annual physical Friday I would be like, ‘Alright if the doctor says you’re going to die, let me know.’”
Kimmel speculated that Trump made the announcement to make it clear that it was a scheduled visit and not an emergency.
“Either way, I bet it’s going to be an excellent report,” he joked. “Let me guess, his physical strength and stamina are extraordinary, his blood pressure is astonishing, and he is by far the healthiest president to singlehandedly tank the economy overnight.”
The joke earned cheers from the audience as he continued.
“After all he’s put us through, it will be nice to know on Friday someone else will be squeezing his balls for a change,” Kimmel added.
Kimmel has long been a vocal critic of Trump’s politics. But even this late night host has begun to realize that his monologues are almost entirely spent ranting about the state of America under President Trump’s administration. So much so, he admitted it’s become difficult to remember what he used to joke on the show about before his focus shifted to politics.
“I have to say what a crazy country we live in. It’s hard to remember what things we used to be worried about,” he said. To test out his theory, Kimmel pulled up a clip he shared on Live 20 years ago on April 8, 2005. The silly clip in question simply showed a woman ranting about her dog biting her.
“It’s all so serious now,” he said.
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
