From pub-hopping gingers to life-saving fluffballs, 12 magnificent moggies are clawing their way to glory in Cats Protection’s National Cat Awards 2025 – and the public has just days left to vote for their favourite.
This year’s finalists have been recognised for a range of remarkable contributions including offering emotional support, detecting health issues and helping their owners through difficult times. Public voting remains open until the end of the month, with winners to be decided in each of the four award categories.
- Connected Cats – for the social butterflies of the feline world
- Family Cats – the ultimate companions for all ages
- Senior Cats – golden oldies with hearts of gold
- Incredible Cats – for the truly extraordinary
The overall winner will be crowned at a glitzy ceremony hosted by author and TV star Dawn O’Porter at London’s One Marylebone on 24 September. They’ll take the title from last year’s champion, Marley, who brought comfort to survivors of trafficking at Caritas Bakhita House.
Among this year’s finalists:
- Mitts – the tabby who helped her owner rebuild her life after homelessness
- Mitzi – the cancer-detecting cuddle queen
- Magnus – a Maine Coon with a healing heart
- Fizz – the ginger explorer who once turned up in a pub five miles from home
“These cats are more than pets – they’re companions, carers, and even lifesavers,” said Cats Protection’s Jeff Knott. “The National Cat Awards celebrate the incredible bond between cats and their humans. Every vote is a chance to say thank you to these amazing moggies.”
Cat lovers have until midday on 31 July to vote for their favourite finalist by visiting www.cats.org.uk/nca.
Category winners will each win a prize package of a trophy, a £200 pet store voucher and a year’s subscription to Cats Protection’s The Cat magazine, with the National Cat of the Year also receiving an overall winner trophy
